    About the Author
David Halliday is associated with the University of Pittsburgh as Professor Emeritus. As department chair in 1960, he and Robert Resnick collaborated on Physics for Students of Science and Engineering and then on Fundamentals of Physics. Fundamentals is currently in its eighth edition and has since been handed over from Halliday and Resnick to Jearl Walker. Dr. Halliday is retired and resides in Seattle.
Robert Resnick is professor emeritus at Rensselaer and the former Edward P. Hamilton Distinguished Professor of Science Education, 1974-93. Together with his co-author David Halliday, he revolutionized physics education with their now famous textbook on general physics, still one of the most highly regarded texts in the field today.

Jearl Walker, professor of physics at Cleveland State University, received his BS in physics from MIT in 1967 and his PhD in physics from University of Maryland in 1973. His book The Flying Circus of Physics was published 30 years ago, has been translated into at least 10 languages, and is still being sold world wide. For 16 years he toured his Flying Circus talk throughout the U.S. and Canada, introducing such physics stunts as the bed-of-nails demonstration and the walking-on-hot-coals demonstration to countless physics teachers, who then proceeded to hurt themselves when they repeated the stunts in their own classrooms. These talks led to his PBS television show Kinetic Karnival which ran nationally for years and which earned an Emmy.

Best Physics book at cheapest rate !!

The book is a mammoth with 1300 pages of text .
It gives you knowledge of all the physics concepts in such an easy manner that you would read this book like a novel if you have interest in science .
There are more than 100 questions/problems at the end of each chapter and there are 44 chapters !!!
There is a picture and an interesting question before every chapter and they tell the answer in between the chapter .

In short if you want a physics book that is really a complete book and that too...

Good for problems and concepts are fine

I loved the practical way of presentation, very good set of problems (tougher than IIT standard). Even in 2009 IIT physics paper i see a question taken out from one of the exercise in electrostatics from this book (e.g. finding the potential of a solid sphere after a cavity is removed).
Try other excellent books available for extra concepts related IIT entrance but don't leave any problem unsolved in this book. really great deal in terms of price.

HIGHLY RECOMMONDEED FOR FLYERS ONLY ..

This book is Great! But only for those who are strong enough to know all the base. They should have all the General concepts of physics and should be capable to solve many of the ncert(any state board textbook).

great book for theory(but not for advanced)

The theory of the book is great but it doesn't have many important derivations such as centre of mass of sphere, disc, cone, triangle etc.,also it doesn't have inclined projection.I recommend it especially for cbse level.Anyway if u r buying it for cbse,go for it......

    GOOD

FIRST OF ALL THANKS FLIPKART FOR ITS AMAZIN SERVICES!
THIS BOOK IS NICE ATTRACTIVE AND DIGS UP RIGHT TO BUILD YOUR BASE AND CONCEPTS FOR IITJEE. ONLY ONE THING BAD ABOUT THIS IS THAT THE TEXT IS TOO LENGHTY AND U HAVE TO SPEND A LOT OF TIME TO READ IT! SOMETIMES IT BORES U.THE PRACTICE BOK QUESTIONS ARE OF A GOOD LEVEL, BUT MANY QUESTIONS HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM P[RADEEP
BUT IF ONE READS IT PROPERLY BY HEART U WILL FEEL CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO FACE QUESTIONS.

    Great introduction of intermediate physics

I use this book to teach my Daughter - Book has good description and is full of excellent examples. Also it takes an algebra based approach which I think makes it ideal for people who don't have background in calculus.
Lot of practical applications are given as well - Book is verbose and it really needs time to read. If you are short of time, use H.C.Verma but if you want to enjoy physics and that too a strong conceptual overview, this book should be on the top of your list. At times I see s...
