Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), conducted every year by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), is an all-India examination that primarily tests the candidates’ comprehensive understanding of undergraduate level subjects in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and postgraduate level subjects in Science. The GATE examination consists of a single paper of 3-hour duration containing 65 questions carrying a maximum of 100 marks. The GATE score of a candidate is used for admissions to various postgraduate education programs (e.g. Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Doctor of Philosophy, etc.) in Indian higher education institutes, with financial assistance provided by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and other government agencies. GATE scores are also being used these days by several Indian public sector undertakings (PSUs), i.e. government-owned companies for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions. This Revised Edition contains previous years’ solved papers (with both objective type questions and numerical answer type questions) in the subject of Physics from the year 2003 onwards. Answer Keys to all the questions in each paper have been provided for self-check. Explanations have also been given for complete understanding by the candidates. Besides, five Brain Teaser Tests of 65 questions each have also been included with Answer Keys and Hints and Solutions. Solving these tests without looking at the answers will help the candidates judge their own level of competence to appear in this examination.
