Ravikumar completed his Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Geography at the University of Madras and subsequently earned a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Geography from Bharathidasan University. Dr. Ravikumar has completed his doctorate (Ph.D.) in Geography from the University of Madras, specialising in flood risk assessment. Notably, he has successfully cleared the UGC-NET examination thrice (in 2005 and 2006).
He currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography at Presidency College (Autonomous) in Chennai, a prestigious government institution ranked third among Arts and Science colleges in the NIRF 2023. He has teaching experience of around eighteen years. Dr. Ravikumar has published over fifteen research papers in esteemed international journals, showcasing his commitment to advancing knowledge in his field.
He has undergone specialised training in several key areas related to disaster management and environmental assessment in NDRF, NRSC-ISRO, CSE and NIDM. He also completed a Professional Development Training on GIS and Spatial Modelling in collaboration with Salzburg University, Austria.
Moreover, he has enhanced his proficiency through Leadership Skills program at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA). In recognition of his research excellence, he was awarded the title of Young Geographer in 2012 by the Indian Institute of Geographers (IIG-Pune).
He has been pivotal in revising the curriculum for Tamil Nadu Government schools under the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). He co-authored well-known geography textbooks for classes XI and XII. Additionally, he has written course materials titled Geography of India, Environmental Geography, and Environmental Impact Assessment for students at the IDE, University of Madras.
