  • Description
    Cast in the mould of a self-help guide to getting rich, this is the extraordinary story of a young boy, born into a poor family. As the years pass, he moves to a slum in the city, gets a brief education, flirts with militancy, and then, hungry for advancement, sets up a bottled water business, the ultimate symbol of the modern South Asian city-a place where nothing works but everything can be had at a price. But as he leaves his past behind, one thing remains constant and true-his love for the girl he met as a teenager.

    How to Make 'Mohsin Hamid' Filthy Rich in Rising Asia {in 7 steps}

    1. Mohsin Hamid is the only one who is going to benefit from this self-help book. But that's given of all self-help books. Or may be of all books.

    2. I've rated it 3 stars but frankly I'm being generous. Mr. Hamid deserves a solid 2-star.

    3. The book probably has 1000 thousand words of actual dialogue. That is shattering. Mr. Hamid. Bring back the Dialogue. Too Terse ain't wondrous writing. It is plain lazy imagination.

    4. When I lose interest in a book in the latter part, I know the bo...

    Empty lives

    Mohsin Hamid is probably the most gifted novelist writing now in south Asia. In this book, as in its predecessor, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Hamid takes us inside the mind of the protagonist in a really slim volume. Having read "Fundamentalist" in one sitting, I was more careful to draw out the experience of this book by pausing every few short chapters. Like that book, however, "Filthy Rich" does not let you go even after the last page is turned.

    The story is pure south Asia, rags to ri...

    Disappointed

    The third time's not a charm. Mohsin, disappoints me after his two stunning novels. While I always loved his style of narration, this one too had a unique narrative but fails to be engaging. It simply lacks soul like his first two books. Except at parts, this book can be avoided.

    Good but not great.

    I read this book, I still feel the 1st one was amazing then any of the two.It had strange thoughts, visions and at the end devastation of the protagonist.How to get filthy rich is about the rules required to get rich. Calling us as the Hero that was well done job.I felt it was getting carried away .Pattern was confusing words were a ? to me.Read it if you are fan of Mohsin hamid .
