  • Description
This exquisitely designed leather-bound edition of Margaret Mitchell's only novel comes with a glorious gold-foiled cover, a satin-ribbon bookmark, gilded edges, and beautiful endpapers. Ideal to be read and treasured, it makes for a perfect addition to any library. It's April 1861. Georgia, southern United States.Scarlet O'Hara-the vivacious, narcissistic, and pampered daughter of a plantation owner in Atlanta-in a fit of choleric contempt over rejection by her desired man, Ashley Wilkes, hurls a figurine against the wall. And behind the depths of the sofa, Rhett Butler is woken up from his nap. ''You're no gentleman,'' fires the southern belle.''And you're no lady!'' the rogue fires back.Scarlet, for vengeance, accepts the marriage proposal from Charles Hamilton-Ashley Wilke's brand new brother-in-law. But at the outbreak of the American Civil War he joins the army and dies of pneumonia followed by measles, a not-so-gallantry death. Through wiles and widowhood, Scarlet manages to keep her independence and becomes an astute business woman.Rhett Butler-the dark, flashy, and scandalous visitor from Charleston-who is a professional gambler and blockade runner, is enamoured by her survival instincts. Around the social turmoils of the war, what becomes of O'Hara and Rhett Butler, an outcast whom she marries for money?

    • Born in Atlanta, Georgia, in November 1900, Margaret Munnerlyn Mitchell belonged to a wealthy and a politically prominent family. Encouraged by her husband, she began writing the novel that would become Gone with the Wind. Nine complete drafts of the thousand-page work, she set this epic romance against the dramatic backdrop of the Civil War. Published in 1936, ten years after she began writing it, Gone with the Wind was a smash success. It became, and still remains, one of the classic masterpieces of all time. Receiving a Pulitzer Prize in 1937, a film version of the novel was planned in the late 1930s.

    A marvellous, unforgettable love story...

It's literally a week after finishing this book that I can bear at all to write a review. I bought the book a few months ago,but its sheer size scared me off. Many a times I took the book, flipped through 3-4 pages and put it back in the shelf. And then finally I read it. And I loved it. This book is so utterly different from any other book I've read previously. In most of the love stories I've seen the protagonists are to epitomize all the goodness of human nature. They share, they care and ...

A must-read for any book lover!

There are just way too many things I love about this book!

One, it a journey into a life that I, a city-dweller in the 21st century has never, and will never lead; two, it has characters you easily relate to and feel connected to; three, it is a very effective portrayal of life in its true unfair sense and not the perfect, ideal one that we read about in a lot of other books.

Rhet Butler is another reason I read this book again and again, and each time I read it, I find myself wistfully wi...

    Magic...

I honestly do not know whether to give this book 5 stars for being one of the most completely engrossing, shocking, and emotionally absorbing pieces of literature ever written, or to give it 0 stars for being the most tragic, unendingly upsetting, disturbing book I've ever read. It was so completely absorbing and magical. I can’t even begin to describe it. Just like love and other abstract stuff, this book needs to be experienced. A must must must read.

A Must Read for Anyone With a Conscience

With Scarlett O'Hara, one of literature's most well known personalities, as it's lead protagonist, Gone With The Wind lives upto all the hype that surrounds it,as one of the greatest love stories ever,by actually not being an out-and-out love story.
A great narration that transports you to the not-so-familiar times of the late 1800s,real characters who have both virtues and vices and are therefore, both endearing and not so endearing at the same time,Gone With The Wind makes one see the other s...

    Classic Literature!

I took a courageous step by picking up Gone With The Wind as usually I try to keep my distance from such classics. That said, this would be my 5th classic and am I disappointed? Hell no!

This book is a masterpiece on another level. And most importantly it takes immense guts to start writing a book over 1200 pages with your central character being a stupid, spoiled, selfish prick. Every time I thought that this is the time I would end up liking Scarlett O'Hara, I was proven wrong. Fiddle-Dee-...
