What Got You Here Won’t Get You There, by Marshall Goldsmith with Mark Reiter, discusses how successful people become even more successful. It has been on the bestselling lists of The New York Times, Amazon.com, and the Wall Street Journal.

    Summary of the Book

This title explains how it is a natural human desire to scale greater heights in life and to aspire more and push the limits of success. It is divided into four major sections. The first section discusses how a series of triumphs can cause an embellished feeling of too much self-confidence, which can prove to be a negative influence on an individual’s future success. The second section is called The Twenty Habits That Hold You. In this section, the author talks about the self-destructive habits that can surface once a person becomes successful at something, and how to overcome them. The last sections are meant for those in the management sector. Marshall moves on to deal with concerns that pervade a business rather than the individual flaws, and the right strategies for handling these bad habits when they surface in subordinates, as well as in seniors. He highlights how significant it is to be absolutely clear and particular about job errands, and how vital it is to be honest, in order to create a strong and effective work environment.

Great book to reflect on your behaviours

Ask yourself, "What are your weaknesses and strengths?". You would have barely made it to 3 points in listing your weaknesses. When you read this book, you'll end up associating with each of the points covered in it.
That's the power in this book. By the time you finish reading the book, you would have vowed to change at least some of your behaviours and would have started becoming conscious of many others. Enjoy the book, it is well worded & simply written.

Great book by great management guru.
Written under some influence of Peter Drucker (author was associated with Drucker), this book talks about what not to be done instead of what should be done as given in most self help books.
We are here....we need to be there...& there is a gap.Author intends to bridge this gap by telling what should be avoided as after a particular stage your technical skills matter less & behavioral skills matter more.
The books exposes some of the common mistakes we do...

    A decent read!

‘What Got You Here Won’t Get You There’ - the title itself would have helped the book become a best seller! And rightly so!

‘Thank you’ (Thanking Others) and ‘Apologizing’ according to Marshall Goldsmith are two most important magical gestures that human beings can make. And rightly so! These two golden words have the potential to be an ice-breaker or change the entire dynamics personally or of a team for the better.

The twenty and the twenty-first habits that hold your back from the top ...

    must have for a "know-it-all"

In 30's-40's age group we usually start to think, we know everything because we have some 9-10 odd years of work experience! But you'll think again after reading this book - that you are after all not so perfect! Its not meant to put you down! It shows a rather different perspective of your image! and, of course, how to make it better!
