Set in the opulent 1920s, the story follows Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, who pursues his unattainable love, Daisy Buchanan. Amidst extravagant parties and societal excess, Fitzgerald weaves a narrative of love, betrayal, and the dark undercurrents of the Jazz Age. Through vivid prose and complex characters, the novel explores themes of disillusionment, class divide, and the relentless pursuit of an idealized past. With its timeless exploration of human desires and the consequences of unchecked ambition, ''The Great Gatsby'' remains a literary masterpiece that resonates across generations.A mesmerizing portrayal of the Roaring Twenties' decadence.Intricate character study of love, ambition, and disillusionment.Fitzgerald's evocative prose transports readers to a bygone era.A critique of the American Dream's elusive allure.A classic that captures the essence of a tumultuous era.

    • Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, widely regarded as one of the greatest American writers of the twentieth century, was born on September 24, 1896, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, to an upper middle class Irish Catholic family. A renowned American author of novels and short stories, Fitzgerald’s first piece of writing—a detective story published in the school newspaper—appeared in print in 1909, at the age of thirteen. His works form the epitome writings of the Jazz Age, a term he coined himself. He is considered a member of the ‘Lost Generation’ of the 1920s. He finished four novels, This Side of Paradise, The Beautiful and Damned, The Great Gatsby—his most famous—and Tender Is the Night, in his lifetime. A fifth, unfinished novel, The Love of the Last Tycoon, was published posthumously. Fitzgerald also wrote many short stories on themes of youth and promise along with despair and age.

The Great Gatsby - why the book comes before the movie, for me?

I read the Rs. 65/- version which worth every penny for its print quality. I wouldn't ask for more, but 50rs for delivery within Bangalore by flipkart is something that really flips-my-kart to annoyance!

Its a multi-dimensional story, which means one sees what he wants to see in it depending on his or her philosophical ideas of life. Everybody can identify themselves in that story with some character or the other or just not at all(which puts them into one of those lay party goers in the sto...

I had seen a part of movie before I started the book.. so while reading I was imagining all the characters the way I have seen in the movie. the story is set in an era when world war is over and stock market is running high in people lives. a beautifully told story, each character given the utmost importance and once you start reading the book writer takes you on to roller coaster ride into the world which you can only imagine now. I fell in love with Gatsby, confident, smart, handsome, rich ...

    Delightful

The delivery from flipkart was good like usual but I'm quite not happy with the product this time.
By the product I mean it's physical condition. It's like I got a refurbished one. There are ink marks and the corners are kinda folded. The print is also not good on the cover. And since it's already mentioned pocket classic you mustn't expect a huge book. Otherwise things are ok!
