    • Mary Ann Shaffer was born in 1934 in Martinsburg, West Virginia. She worked as an editor, a librarian and in bookshops. She became interested in Guernsey while visiting London in 1976. On a whim, she decided to fly to Guernsey but became stranded there as a heavy fog descended and no boats or planes were permitted to leave the island. As she waited for the fog to clear, she came across a book called Jersey Under the Jack-Boot, and so her fascination with the Channel Isles began. Many years later, when goaded by her own literary club to write a book, Mary Ann naturally thought of Guernsey.

    My Views on this Book

To say in just one line, yes, the book is as strange as its title.

It is story of a 32 year old female writer Juliet Ashton, who has just got success with his humorous articles in the news paper in the time of 2nd world war. But now she wants to write something different, something which can make her content, but is not sure about what. Then all of sudden arrives a letter from a channel island called Guernsey from an unknown person Dawsey Adams. As the letters flew back and forth, the life o...

    Worth reading!

It is a story in the form of letters which beautifully tells the story of the ordinary people during German Occupation, how they tried to cope up with it. The narrative is also woven with the stories of those who had been in German Prison camps and the trauma of the survivors. Above all, it is the story of triumph of human compassion and courage.

    Terrible product

The copy that I have received had quite a few blank pages bang in the middle of the book. This is something that I hadn't noticed before the 10-day return period was over. Even though the product is sold by a Flipkart assured seller, it's best not to buy a copy from this seller.
