Why is there a shipping charge for this item?

Sellers with Flipkart Assured waive off the delivery charge for Orders over Rs 500. For Orders under Rs 500, a nominal delivery charge is added per item.

Sellers without Flipkart Assured may or may not add a delivery charge to your Order. This is subject to Seller discretion.

What is the estimated delivery time?

Sellers generally procure and ship the items within the time specified on the product page. Business days exclude public holidays and Sundays.

Estimated delivery time depends on the following factors:

      • The Seller offering the product
      • Product's availability with the Seller
      • The destination to which you want the order shipped to and the Seller's location

Why does the delivery date not correspond to the delivery timeline of X-Y business days?

It is possible that the Seller or our courier partners observe a holiday between the day you placed your order and the date of delivery, which is based on the timelines shown on the product page. In this case, we add a day to the estimated date. Some courier partners and Sellers do not work on Sundays and this is factored in to the delivery dates.

What do the different tags like 'In Stock', 'Available' mean?

      'In Stock'

Products‘In Stock’ are readily available with seller.

      'Available'

Products listed as ‘In Stock’ are readily available with seller.

      'Preorder' or 'Forthcoming'

The product is not released yet. You can however ‘book’ an order for this. Shipping happens only after the product launch.

      'Out of Stock'

Currently, the item is not available for sale. Use the 'Notify Me' feature to know once it is available for purchase.

      'Imported'

Sometimes, items have to be sourced by Sellers from outside India. These items are mentioned as 'Imported' on the product page and can take at least 10 days or more to be delivered to you.

      'Back In Stock Soon'

The item is popular and is sold out. You can however 'book' an order for the product and it will be shipped according to the timelines mentioned by the Seller.

      'Temporarily Unavailable'

The product is currently out of stock and is not available for purchase. The product could to be in stock soon. Use the 'Notify Me' feature to know when it is available for purchase.

      'Permanently Discontinued'

This product is no longer available because it is obsolete and/or its production has been discontinued.

      'Out of Print'

This product is not available because it is no longer published and has been permanently discontinued.

Why does the estimated delivery time vary for each seller?

Delivery times are influenced by product availability, geographic location of the Seller, your shipping destination and the courier partner's time-to-deliver to your location.

Please enter your default pin code on the product page to know more accurate delivery times on the product page itself.

Seller does not/cannot ship to my area. Why?

Enter your pincode on the product page to know whether the product can be delivered to your location.

If you haven't provided your pincode until the checkout stage, the pincode in your last used shipping address will be used to check for serviceability.

Whether your location can be serviced or not depends on:

      • Whether the Seller actually ships to your location
      • Legal restrictions, if any, in shipping particular products to your location
      • The availability of reliable courier partners in your location

At times Sellers prefer not to ship to certain locations. This is entirely at their discretion.

    Description
Rajendra B. Aklekars research-and his scholarship which enables him to interpret his findings-throws new light on the way railways were built. - Sir Mark Tully, author of Non - Stop India

Fascinating stuff. An enormous amount of really rigorous work. - Naresh Fernandes, author of City Adrift - A Short Biography of Bombay

Halt Station India chronicles the dramatic rise of Indias original rail network, the arrival of the first train and the subsequent emergence of a pioneering electric line-all in the port city of Bombay. Trains that once provoked awe and fear-they were viewed as fire chariots, smoke-spewing demons-have today become a nations lifeblood.

Taking a walk along Indias first rail lines, the author stumbles upon fragments of the past-a clock at Victoria Terminus that offers a rare view of a city, a cannon near Masjid Bunder Station that is worshipped as a god, a watchtower overlooking Sion Station, believed to have housed a witch. Each pit-stop comes with stories of desire and war, ambition and death-by Dockyard Road Station, for instance, author Laurence Sternes beloved, Eliza Draper, followed a sailor into the sea or close to Parel Station, the wife of Indias governor general, Lord Canning found a garden rich in tropical vegetation this, she replicated at Barrackpore.

Drawing from journals, biographies, newspapers and railway archives-and with nostalgic, first-time accounts of those who travelled by Indias earliest trains-the book captures the economic and social revolutions spurred by the countrys first train line. In this, Halt Station India is not just about the railways-it is the story of the growth of Indias business capital and a rare study of a nation.

Splendid and rigorous research, simple to read.

This is a must-have book for railway enthusiasts and those interested in Mumbai's history. Though it mainly speaks about the history of the Mumbai suburban train system, it has doses of other aspects of Mumbai too. For example, public hospitals, town halls, the plague epidemic etc.

Rigorous research is the backbone of this book. Loaded with facts and trivia. Do not hesitate, if you are thinking of ordering it.

    An engrossing, well researched book

I was very eager to read this book since a few weeks, and finally finished reading it today. It was a wonderful read. The book is a nice combination of the story of how Mumbai's suburban railway was established, and the history of Mumbai. The book is successful in taking you back in time. It gave me good insights of how Mumbai used to be in that era.

Author has researched well on the subject, and that shows in the book. First chapter deals with planning & construction of the first line. It ...

Tracing the Blueprint of Berkley's Line

This is a grand piece of research, one that really takes one down memory lane to those early days when Bombay was a group of seven islands joined by walkways and causeways. The arrival of the first train was a spectacle for everyone, and for many, it was the treat of a lifetime. The arrival of the Bombay--Thana line is told in full detail, such detail as is not found anywhere in the literature. Having covered this, the author takes us on a heritage walk, station by station, listing various he...
