Gouranga Bahubalendra, scion of a Khurda paik family whose forefathers had participated in the paik rebellion and fought with Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar against the Britishers, is an honest and upright officer. He has turned out to be a misfit in a corrupt organisation he has to work for. He joins Head Office after seven transfers in eleven years of his service career. His immediate boss in the head office happens to be the husband of his childhood crush. The head of the office has infatuation with a woman employee and pressurises him to help her illegally. Gourang falls in love with a lady officer who is already married. Brought up in a traditional and conservative milieu, she vacillates to come out of the wedlock. But Gourang again fails to fit into the corrupt system, and is transferred after a stint of one year eight months and fourteen days, his eighth transfer in twelve-thirteen years of service, but he has found his life partner.

Sahadev Sahoo is a bilingual writer and columnist. Born in 1959 in the village, Bhuluka, Jajpur district he completed his M.A. (Utkal) and M. Phil (Kurukshetra) in History and joined a college. After teaching about three years he left the college and joined Odisha Finance Service. Sahadev Sahoo has published so far thirteen story collections and six novels in Odia and a novel in English (Concubine) to critical acclaim. He also writes features and essays in different Odia and English newspapers. Besides, he writes a blog which can be accessed at sahadevsworld.blogspot.com. He has received many awards and honours which include Bishuba Jhankar Galpa Samman, Fakir Mohan Upanayas Samman, Abani Baral Sahitya Samman, Akhil Katha Samman, Punannaba Galpa Samman, Subrat Smaraki Galpa Puraskar (Gangadhar Foundation), etc. He was associated in implementing VAT and GST in the state. He has written extensively in different newspapers and magazines on tax matters. He retired as Additional Commissioner (GST) in 2019.
