    Flipkart Official Review

There are very few travelogues out there that make you laugh. Also, there are very few travelogues which are ironic and comic and also explore humanity – all rolled into one. Srinath Perur’s book is all of that and more. It is an account of a conducted tour of the country – the idea to be on a tour with strangers and then to encounter strangers is indeed fascinating.

Perur’s book is of ten places in the country – each with its own heritage and culture. The writing is crisp and often explores the dichotomy of human behaviour. Perur looks at the country and its people the way they are and makes no bones about it.

Travel writing calls for a lot of detailing, which Srinath excels at in his book. “If it’s Monday, It Must Be Madurai” is a frank account of the country and its people. A read for the bus or the train journey, that is long pending

This is a delightful read which is a travelogue about ten tours conducted in India. It gives a view about India’s tourist and travelers, their experiences and a portrait of India. It is an entertaining and sometimes comical read.

    Summary of the book

This book gives you a hint on what it is like to travel for adventure, lust and God. It is full of rich and wonderful experiences like: hanging onto the back of a camel in the Thar, rediscovering music on the trail of Kabir, the joining of thousands of people from across the nation on an ancient pilgrimage in Maharashtra and crossing root bridges near Cherrapunji. The book is not just about the places, but also the nature of travel as it is done today. The picture taking and the mini buses packed with tourists who go hopping from one temple to another, or those who like to have mind-blowing experiences in faraway lands.

    Fun read about fellow Indians

A good, fun read about our fellow Indians. You can blow through it in a few hours or days, depending on your reading speed.
It is organized as a string of individual stories, quite unrelated to each other. The author's writing style is good, so you do feel drawn into the story.

However - this book is going to appeal to you only if you are a certain TYPE of Indian - the type that is not described in the various stories, the well-educated, aware, aloof sort of Indian who thinks they are ever-s...

    Loved it

Loved it from beginning till the end. If books have tastes, this one is definitely sweet. I'm not a travel buff but curious about those who are. Why they do it? What they feel? and of all the things in the world why someone would do a conducted tour? Read it.
Reading the book in the cool confort of my room was wonderful. We visit places not to see but to feel. Book contains 10 different tours and 10 or more 'feelings'. Best part is the writer is not judgemental about his fellow travelers onl...

    A Different Take on Travel

With the disposable income in the hands of average middle class Indian increasing a large number of Indian venture out of their homes for travel inside and outside India. While the more adventerous and resourceful ones plan their trips with the help of a plethora of travel help books and magazines, most prefer to leave all the hassles of planning and executing to their friendly neighbourhood travel agent . It is this group of Indian travelers that the book seeks to relate to.

    Different; worth a shot.

The first few chapters were gems. They were extremely hilarious, relate-able and stunning in general. However, the book eventually took a turn for the worse. Chapters that followed were drab and descriptive, with the author attempting to make every little detail sound epiphanous. While the book promisingly began as one catering to an Indian audience, it eventually turned into a guide of sorts for foreign travelers. I would recommend this book to every reader of travelogues only because the fi...

    An excellent read!

Very good book! Writer brings out the essence of all the ten trips he describes. Especially good is the character description of the people who go on his conducted tours. A book everybody is sure to enjoy.

    Not your regular travelogue

Very nice read. Its quite different from your regular travel books. Its interesting, in how it describes people travelling in groups. The automatic division into sub-groups. Each chapter is a different tour, a new bunch of people, a new location, with the only constant being Srinath's observations & interactions with them.

I picked this book from flipkart, after reading an extract on a website. (open magazine i think).
