Based on a novel by John Ball, directed by Norman Jewison and starring Sidney Poitier, Rod Steiger and Warren Oates, In The Heat Of The Night is a mystery crime-drama film that follows the efforts of a racially-biased sheriff and a sophisticated African-American police detective who have to set aside their differences in order to solve an unusual murder. An Oscar Award-winner, this movie was such a hit that it inspired the production of two sequels and a TV series as well.
