I liked the way Ramachandra Guha has chronicled the development of India right since independence. Its a beautiful narrative and the book is a very detailed account of India since independence. Not for UPSC. But definitely good read for today's youth on the turmoil called Independent India.
As the author himself notes, India is an experiment in democracy. That so since nobody has embarked on such an notion of a nation without a common feeling of nation-state like Europe with so many diversities. But yet we are still together and united.
