The book is divided into three parts: the ancient, the modern and the contemporary Indian political thought. It analyses Indian political thought from the days of Manu to M.N. Roy. The book has been kept brief and terse, by including selected thinkers and leaving out those of only historical prominence. The method followed is construction through criticism so that along with analyzing the thoughts of distinguished Indian political thinkers, the reader may cultivate an insight into political processes, their roots and significance. Matter has been drawn from reliable sources, and the book has been narrated in simple and lucid language for better comprehension. A composed holistic approach has been maintained in provocative matters.

About the Authors

Dr. Urmila Sharma is the daughter of the esteemed Indian Political Scientist Dr. B.M. Sharma. She obtained maximum marks in all the faculties of Lucknow University and was the recipient of four gold medals. Between 1958 and 1959 she was a lecturer in the P.G. Department of Political Science at R.G. College, Meerut. During 1959-1962, she received the U.G.C. Research Fellowship. She has been continuously engaged in research and writing ever since then. In the year 1980, Urmila received her Ph.D. for her work on Humanism in Contemporary Indian Political Thought. She has compiled many books on Political Science in both English and Hindi.

Dr. S. K. Sharma taught Political Science to under-graduate and post-graduate students for about thirty years and retired as the Head of the Department of Political Science, from Meerut College. He is the author of about fifty research papers. Dr. Sharma has guided numerous students in their Ph.D. research and has attended several seminars in India and abroad. He received his Ph.D. from the London University for his work on Harold Laski.
