Summary of the Book

Tessa Gray's life is starting to stabilize as she has discovered the Shadowhunters in the dark world under Victorian London. However, her refuge may be withdrawn for her guardian is slowly being unseated as the head of the institute. If Tessa is turned to the streets, the Magister will once again find ways to use her powers for his own clandestine reasons. Amidst her turmoil, Tessa discovers that the Magister's war is rooted in his past, in a deep and dark tragedy. She must travel to a manor house which hides secrets about her parentage. In the journey, she finds herself drawn closer to Jem, but also longs for Will despite his own walls which she begins to break down. Tessa's inner journeys must battle with her own questions, as she fights against the corruption that haunts even the purest of hearts.
