Ashok Gupta, now 74, was born in Lahore in 1944 and grew up in Delhi having migrated from the once cultural capital of Northern India to the country's national capital. A masters in Economics from Delhi University, He taught the subject and developed interests in literature, classical music, and finally spirituality as handed down to us through the written texts of Guru Granth Saheb and the singing of hymns contained therein in prescribed Ragas by accomplished Ragis. Notable is his attempt to make the Gurus' and Saints' Vision and toughts available to the world at large by translating in English an assortment of their hymns distinguished by their universal humanity and spirituality. One such collection has already appeared in Songs of Life and Liberation, published by Heritage Publishers who have also published his book of Hindi poems Paraspar Prakash Mein and an account of his spiritual journey, Shahi Faquir
