Summary of the Book

Tony Stark’s life changed drastically after his kidnapping. Once a genius, inventor, billionaire and philanthropist, he took on a new identity after the terrorists decided to try and force him to recreate his explosives for them. He worked in secret, crafting a body armour the likes of which had never been witnessed before. Using his ingenuity and inventive prowess, Tony Stark created the Iron Man suit. Destroying the terrorist camp on his own, he returns home a changed man. He decides to use an upgraded version of the Iron Man suit to help others, to help the world become a better place. However, in his fight against injustice and terrorism, he will have to fight a terrible foe, humans who are empowered by an experimental drug called Extremis. This drug transforms ordinary humans into fire-wielding monsters, incapable of logical thoughts. In the hands of a terrorist organization, such a drug would unleash chaos on the world. The army and special forces won’t be able to do anything, but rest assured, the Invincible Iron Man will!

About the Authors

Warren Ellis is a comic book writer, novelist and socio-cultural commentator. He has also worked on the Ultimate Fantastic Four storylines for a while.

Adi Granov is known for his exemplary artwork on the interiors and covers of several Marvel Comics titles. He has also worked on concept and keyframe artwork for the 2008 film Iron Man as well as for The Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 films.

Collector’s Note

This book collects all the Extremis chapters from the mini-story arc as published in Iron Man volume 4. This book is notable for its reputation as one of the finest Iron Man stories ever written, and for redefining the status quo of Tony Stark and Iron Man in general.

Media Note

Parts of this graphic novel storyline were loosely adapted for the Iron Man movie franchise from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was the primary source material for the filming of Iron Man 3.
