Jacquard Procion MX dyes are fibre-reactive cold-water dyes that are chemically fixed instead of with heat. This unique property sets Procion MX apart from all other dyes and establishes them as the undisputed king of backyard dyeing, batik and tie-dye. Because Procion MX dyes can be used away from the stovetop, they are also the ideal colours for shibori, ice dyeing, tub and low water immersion dyeing, printing, direct painting, and other “alternative” dye applications. As a fibre-reactive dye, Procion MX forms a strong covalent bond with cellulosic fibres, making it the most permanent and wash fast of all dyestuffs. Procion is a concentrated powdered dye which, when added to water, produces an exceptionally brilliant colour ideal for all-natural materials such as cotton, rayon, linen, silk, wool, paper, reeds and wood. Use it for a variety of applications including tie-dyeing, vat dyeing, batik, airbrush, hand painting, printing, and spatter painting. Mix these concentrated dye powders with cold tap water to produce the best and most permanent colour on cellulose fabrics including cotton, linen (flax), bamboo, rayon and viscose. Procion MX dye is fixed with soda ash to make it wash fast. The soda ash is added directly to the dye bath for submersion dyeing. The fabric is to be soaked in a solution of soda ash and then dried before commencing work. Procion dyes are permanent, colourfast, and very washable when mixed with soda ash. Typically, one 18g pot will dye more than 0.45kg of dry fabric. Increase the dye to weight to achieve brighter, stronger colours or reduce the amount of dye to achieve paler, pastel colours.
