  • Description

Many have agreed that the partition of India in 1947 was like a vivisection. It was probably one of the most traumatic experiences of the twentieth century. Many reasons have been given and many fingers have been pointed at people for the partition. One of them being Jinnah. However, we do not know who it really was: Jinnah, the Congress Party or the British.

    Summary of the Book

In this book, Jaswant Singh has attempted to find his answer to the reason behind the partition as there is no such thing as a definitive answer to this question. Jinnah, who started as an ambassador of Hindu-Muslim unity, is becoming known as the sole spokesman of Muslims in India and the creator of Pakistan. Jaswant Singh tries to find out how this transformation came about. The book is an objective analysis. As a minister, Jaswant was responsible for the conduct of India’s foreign policy and managed the country’s defense. The book stands apart as it is written by a one who practiced policy. The author believes that if we want to understand how to bring back peace in South Asia, we first need to understand why it abandoned us. Unless we understand this, we will never know how to bring about any peace.

    About Jaswant Singh

Jaswant Singh was barely 19 years old when he commissioned the Indian Army. He has seen two wars during his time of service and resigned his commission to pursue a political career. He has served seven terms in the parliament and held charge of six ministries of the Government of India. These include: External Affairs, Defense and Finance. He is among the most respected names in the country.

    Jinnah By Jaswant Singh

Authentic, Balanced, Candid and Delightful, in the sense that Mr.Jaswant Singh has dealt with the subject in a purely academic and unsentimental way, that only a distinguished writer could write. I heartily congratulate him for his marvelous contribution to the field of biographical writing in India.

This book has proved in the eyes of every Indian that Quaid - e - Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was great leader compared to Gandhi, Nehru and Patel.

    Interesting read...

I am almost on completion on this book. So far Jashwant writing has been more of disliking of Gandhi and sympathetic towards Jinnah. Even though the author is biased in favor of Jinnah in his narration of what transpired during the time of partition, the book is valuable resource of information and events. The books has lots of texts directly from letters exchanged between leaders of partition era.

    Must buy!

This book is a GEM. One of it's own kind. Sometimes words are hard to find to praise something. It's such a rare, perhaps one in a lifetime, moment. I have become speechless.
Wonderfully narrated, this book compelled me to look at our history, the so called National movement, from an altogether different perspective. It candidly reveals the true colours of some of our most venerated heroes.
Go for it without a second thought. If you are really interested in the political history of...
