Mathura Kalauny is a playwright and artistic director at Kalayan Theatre Group which was founded by him in 1988. He has authored 19 plays, and produced and directed more than 38 under Kalayan banner.
Mathura Kalauny was born in 1947 in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Nature had a profound impact on him. He was creatively inclined towards literary compositions from an early age. He started writing in 1980, in his early thirties. Established himself as a short story writer in a very short time. Most of the short stories are in the genre of humorous satire.Somewhere along in his literary journey theatre happened to him. He founded Kalayan Theatre Group way back in 1988. Since then it has been theatre and more theatre. He has written 19 full lengh plays and 12 short plays.Some of his plays are regularly being staged in various parts of the country
He has 150 published short stories to his credit and his stories have appeared in all major Hindi publications of the country. He has written four novels
