About the book Many narratives are woven around Kailas and Manasarovar in the large body of literature in Sanskrit from ancient times and in other languages, besides travelogues written more recently . It is difficult, however , to find the multiple facets and perspectives of these holy sites in one place. This book fills the void. It elaborates how the two geographic locations were viewed in the distant past and in subsequent periods of the cultural life of the Indian sub-continent. It offers compelling glimpses of important places en-route Kailas and Manasarovar as well along the sacred trek through Uttarakhand and draws out the attractions in Western Tibet. Curiosity about the sacred places among the followers of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Boen faiths remains as though unquenched. The book is a holistic treatise on cultural, mythological and spiritual aspects of Kailas-Manasarovar for believers, while enhancing travel and tourism value for others.
