Concrete is one of the most important materials of construction. Durability of structures depends upon the quality of concrete which includes selection of appropriate aggregates their batching proportioning mixing transportation placement and curing. Therefore it is of paramount importance for engineers and technicians to understand the properties and procedure of testing such properties which govern the strength and quality of concrete. This laboratory manual deals mainly with the testing of various ingredients and concrete as per BIS specifications. The manual besides testing aggregates cement and concrete also deals with various non-destructive testing techniques. Dr. Hemant Sood Assistant Professor Department of Civil Engineering at the Technical Teachers Training Institute Chandigarh is involved with the development of instructional material both print and non-print staff development curriculum development and R&D projects. He was actively involved in the development of Continuing Education Package on Concrete Mix Design published by Indian Society of Technical Education.

Dr. L. N. Mittal worked as Prof. & Head Curriculum Development Centre at Technical Teachers Training Institute Chandigarh. He participated in World Conference on Cooperative Education at Edinburgh in 1985 and Kingston (Jamaica) in 1995 and was honoured to chair technical sessions at both these conferences. He has contributed over 30 papers in national and international journals. He is an ISTE National Award Winner for presenting a paper on the Concept of Cooperative Education.
