Paul Streumer is a researcher into the tribal history of eastern India. He read philosophy, anthropology and development economics at Amsterdam and Utrecht, and obtained his PhD in Languages and Cultures of South Asia from the University of Leiden. He taught sociology of development at the University of Utrecht. After that, he was a consultant on knowledge management to the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure, respectively for the Directorate General for Civil Aviation and that of Water Affairs. In addition, he was chairman and content webmaster of the Foundation Foreign Partner aiding Dutch citizens with family reunification with their non-EU partners. A consummate researcher, he delved deeply into the archives and libraries in London, Kolkata, Patna, and Delhi to get the story of the HOS. He is a frequent visitor to the tribals of eastern India, and lives in the Netherlands.
