Life of Pi is the story of a young boy who finds himself in a critical position when he is left stranded on a boat in the Pacific. Four animals initially accompany him, but the number comes down to just one, a Bengal tiger called Richard Parker.
Summary of the Book
Pi is a young boy from Pondicherry whose father owned a zoo. He believes in God and follows all religions. One day, his father decides that the family is going to move to Canada in an attempt to avoid the political scenario in India. They begin their journey and are accompanied by some of the animals from their zoo. A violent storm leaves Pi stranded on a lifeboat with a zebra, an orangutan, a hyena and a Bengal tiger called Richard Parker. The journey teaches Pi plenty about survival and facing his fears.
About Yann Martel
Yann Martel is best known for his novel Life of Pi, which won the Man Booker Prize in 2002. The Canadian author has won a number of literary prizes and is the first Canadian to have represented the Washington Arts Commission.
