  • Description

Line and Strength is a tell-all autobiography of the former Australian cricketer, Glenn McGrath. He has compiled the book with the sports journalist, Daniel Lane. It includes a postscript by McGrath's late wife Jane.

    Summary of the Book

From his early days of working the land in Narromine to winning the World Cup three times, Glenn McGrath has always been led by an unwavering will to succeed, in spite of the numerous odds that have come along his way. Following his retirement from international cricket, McGrath has chosen to recount his complete story, on and off the field, in Line and Strength. Known as 'Pigeon', he won his baggy green cap in Perth in 1993 and went on to becoming one of the cricket's most successful fast bowlers. McGrath entered Ashes folklore in 1997 and destroyed England’s game by taking 8 for 38 at Lords. He even scored a Test half-century with the bat. With the legendary leg spinner, Shane Warne, McGrath formed the most devastating bowling combination in Test history. But McGrath's most meaningful achievements, unarguably, have been off the field, as a loving husband more than a cricketer. With his wife, Jane, he founded the McGrath Foundation, a major funder for and supporter of breast cancer victims. In this book, he poignantly talks about Jane and his battles against the disease and Jane's tragic passing.

    A decent read

i started this book with very high expectations, and while it turned out to be quite a decent book, somehow i felt that there could have been much more to this book. There could have been much more cricket in it, and many more opportunities to actually peep into the mind of this fighter. Overall, it was pretty much what one expects from a standard autobiography, but if you have Steve Waugh's Out of My Comfort Zone as the reference point, this might fall a bit short. Very much like Piegeon's s...
