Long Walk to Freedom is the autobiographical account of the South African President Nelson Mandela.

    Summary of the Book

The spellbinding memoirs of the exceptional moral and political leader of our time, Long Walk to Freedom intensely recounts the spectacle of the experiences that facilitated the shaping up Nelson Mandela's destiny. Nelson Mandela became the democratically elected, first black president of South Africa in 1994. This poignant, absorbing and inspiring autobiography is the story of an epic life, a story of suffering, resilience and decisive triumph told with the simplicity and eloquence of a born leader. It burns with the luminosity of belief in the unconquerable nature of human hope and dignity. Mandela is counted among the few great political leaders like Lincoln and Gandhi, who, for the sake of the humanity, went beyond the mere consensus and walked ahead of their followers to break new ground, and break walls and supplant them with the message of humanity, hope, freedom and love.

    About Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was the South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, philanthropist and politician, who served as the President of the country. He was imprisoned for over 27 years, during which his repute as an icon of resistance to the anti-apartheid movement grew immeasurably. Mandela was honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize in the year 1993.

    Impeccable

Astounding it may sound; but yes, sometimes truth is really stranger than fiction. I still can't imagine the pain he took for his people. In this world so selfish and cynic, the devotion he showed for the freedom of his people is truly remarkable.

It is the story of a man who crossed the threshold of tolerance, courage and forgiveness. It changed a lot in me. A must read.

    Long live the struggle

The book is a sincere account of how mandela changed from a tribal boy to a truly mass leader. A vivid description has been given about various struggles waged by southafrican people. Although it is silent about acivities of other groups still worth reading for anyone interested in SA history and life of a great person.

    Questions and Answers
Q:Is this book as engaging as the man himself ?
A:Yes, after My experiment with the truth, this is more transparent autobiography. It's bit lengthy though. Just like some thriller movie it will lit up your interest slowly into the story.
