  • Description

A story of star-crossed lovers who are stripped from each other, Love in the Time of Cholera is a best-selling romance novel by Nobel-laureate Gabriel García Márquez.

    Summary of the Book

In a story as old as stories can get, Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza are in love. However, their passionate love for each other is not something that Fermina's father Lorenzo Daza encourages. Despite having Fermina's Aunt Escolástica's support, the two lovers are soon split from each other. Lorenzo sends his daughter packing to live with his dead wife's relatives in another city, but Florentino and Fermina's love does not perish. They communicate via telegraph and continue their affair. However, when Fermina returns to Florentino's city, she finds that she has lost interest in Florentino and instead finds Dr. Juvenal Urbino, a Cholera fighting doctor her father recommends, a better match for her. They wed and leave Florentino heart-broken. Florentino swears to wait for Fermina and sets about a self-destructive journey from woman to woman, never loving them in his throes of passion. However, what chance does he stand of winning over a woman who is already married to a much more successful man? Will his self-destructive love lead to his ruin? In this story, Gabriel García Márquez explores love and its ability to sustain itself on chance meetings, a word said to the air or a prayer left behind at an altar, in front of which one lover has found another, and the other is left to his broken heart.

''This book arrived, so thus the love of my life''

Written not with ink but love, 'Love in the time of cholera' is a story set in the epidemic of cholera and tells about the disease of love, irremediable and painful.

Picturesque and filled with bubbles of seduction and lovemaking, 'Love in the time of cholera' beautifully explores the various lovely relationships of Mother-Son, Husband-Wife, Man-Mistress, Lover-Goddess, all together knitted with magic called love.

This immense story is like a love song playing in the heart.

    wonderful read

If one wishes to understand how beautiful language can get, one needs to read this book. The story revolves around the lives of three persons - Fermina, Florentino and Dr.Urbino. Without serving spoilers, I will say that the story is about the various ways in which relationships can happen. The beauty of sentence construction is what blew me away. As I was reading the book, I could not help but keep appreciating the writer's skill of describing everyday events and people. The scenery just com...

Love as a festival? Sounds good

The lives of the three protagonists - Fermino Daza, Florentino Ariza, and Dr. Juvenal Urbino are the core of this book. It shows love in it's various avatars, the various shapes and kinds it can take, what happens in a fight of love between a rational person, and a so-called "Hopeless Romantic", and it's various refraction. Marquez in his book shows the various forms and states of human love and in effect educates and typifies the human mind and true love.

    BAD PRINTING QUALITY!!!!!!!!

This book has made up to the top of my favorites and i would recommend this to everyone..........very meaningful and sweet......the best part is that the author has not taken help of the sexual side of love (like sideny sheldon etc.) but has shown how love can have so many forms even without any physical relations..but as far as the printing is concerned its lacks quality.....there are many grammatical mistakes and at many places you have to use your instincts to read out words....so read th...

    Love of my life..

Can't say much about the book as of now. Recieved the book just the day before tomorrow. AS usual, Flipkart's service was absolutely swift and user-friendly. Can say this much though, Its gonna be a tale of limitless passion and joyful love, love which is as pure as a newborn's mind. I would recommend this book to anyone. Specially to those readers who like to read literature, and relish its meaning at the same time.

    All time favourite

I'm a Marquez fan and this is my favourite from his collection, even more than 100 years of solitude. It also happens to be my favourite love story. Read it a long time back, this one's for gifting. Any lover of literature can't do without reading this gem of a book.

    Beauty in words!!

Must read for advanced readers. For readers who find love and beauty in words. In poetry. Gabriel Garcia is a national treasure. And personally, his work is very similar to Pablo Neruda's poetry. Passion, sex, loyalty, fidelity and the hopeless addiction to love that drives these characters to do what they do is just, i don't know!!!, Beautiful.
