  • Description

The book is a complete guide that helps readers understand Shakespeare’s darkest tragedy, Macbeth.

    Summary Of The Book

Set in Scotland, No Fears Shakespeare: Macbeth follows the story of Macbeth, a decorated army general who dreams of becoming the king. A chance encounter with three witches leads him to see that his ambitions can soon be realized. Aided and abetted by his scheming wife, he murders King Duncan and takes over the empire of Scotland. With his evil unleashed, he activates a reign of terror which eventually leads to his impending downfall.

This book is specifically designed for those studying the play as part of their curriculum. It not only presents the full, unabridged text of the play but also provides complete explanations for its every aspect. It also provides notes on all major characters of the play to help students understand the play better.

The play is loosely based on the historical text Holinshed's Chronicles and is considered as one of the greatest tragedies of all time. A cursed play, its name is not taken under the roof of a theatre, mainly due to superstitious beliefs. However, its performances are quite frequent internationally. It has also been adapted a number of times for films and television.

    About William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare was a 16th century English dramatist and poet. He is widely regarded as the greatest English playwright of all time.

The range of his work is extensive with as many as 38 plays, 154 sonnets, and numerous poems. He is best known for his plays, which have been translated to every major language and are regularly enacted and adapted across the world. Some of his most popular plays include The Merchant Of Venice, Romeo and Juliet, Othello, and As You Like It. The Rape of Lucrece and Venus And Adonis are among his most widely read sonnets.

His plays roughly belong to one of the three genres of tragedies, romantic comedies, and historical dramas. While Shakespeare carried a marked influence of other Elizabethan writers in his early writing, in his later works, he developed a distinctive style and structure of its own. His style of writing varies from a strict adherence to the iambic pentameter to poetic writing which may be rhymed or in blank verse.

Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564. A large part of his life remains unknown or uncertain. His plays came to prominence in the 1590s, when he was a member of a theater company called Lord Chamberlain’s Men. He went on to establish the Globe Theatre in 1599, which became the setting for a number of his later plays. He died on April 23, 1616.

Amazing paraphrase (Must buy for ISC students)

If you are looking for a paraphrase of Macbeth, then go for it. Must buy for ISC students. I did not find any flaw in the book. Although, one must keep in mind that many of the ambiguous sentences can be interpreted in many ways.
