  • Description

This book focuses on the experience of the Sindhi Hindu community in India that took place during the time of partition.

    Summary of the Book

After the partition, Sindh was comparatively free of the inter-communal violence that took place in Punjab, Bengal and other parts of North India. During the early life of Pakistan, the Sindhi Hindus hadn’t migrated and remained a significant part of the minority in West Pakistan. This book traces the experiences of the community that started off as a small community and went on to be a powerful minority community. However, they soon became a target of communal discrimination. In 1948, they became victims of the Karachi program and felt compelled to migrate to India. The second part of the book talks about the resettlement of the community in India. They started off in refugee camps, struggled to make sense of the rapidly changing government policies, and eventually rehabilitated themselves in their new homeland. However, not all the Sindhi Hindus chose to migrate to India. The last pages of this book sensitively documents the difficulties that the Sindhi Muslims faced after the formation of Pakistan.

Fills a big hole in the history of Sindhis

A thoroughly researched book. Fills a big hole in the history of Sindhis. It's hard to find books on the Sindhi history and this book fills many gaps in the process. A good collection of personal histories apart from the scavenging of the official documents makes this one of a kind.
