"Malabar Musings" is a rewind to the times when time stood still, nobody was in a tearing hurry. Natural therefore the leitmotif of this tome is the simple pleasures of life seen through the eyes of an under-ten child. A large joint family forms the backdrop of the narrative – buzzing like a beehive, it had its own hierarchy in place, be it in the overall running of a tarawad, or in a few kitchens which together worked to provide for over hundred-and-fifty members. The little joys of life come alive when the author takes the reader along in a lucid style, with enchanting snapshots of wise elders, innocent children, teachers, poets and festivals, and other little nothings that carried a flavour of an era.
