Malala was born in 1997, at dawn. She would be the first child of Ziauddin Yousufzai and Dar Pekai. They lived in Mingora, a large city spread over the Swat Valley in Pakistan. Their house was located opposite to the Kushal School for Girls founded by Ziauddin. Malala's father was not upset that his baby was born as a girl, as some new fathers are in his country.
