M.T. Vasudevan Nair
is a short story writer , novelist, screenwriter and film director. He was born on 15 July 1933 in Cuddalore near Ponnani. He was a teacher. He was the associate editor of the Mathrubhumi weekly and later the editor (1956-'81). He was the editor of Mathrubhumi Periodicals (1988-'99). He received the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award (Kaalam), Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award (Nalukettu), Vayalar Award (Randamoozham), Otakuzhal Award (Vanaprastha) and the Jnanpith Award. He received several state and national awards for screenplay. He also won the National Award for Best Film in 1974 for Nirmalyam. D.Litt. from Calicut University and Mahatma Gandhi University. Received Padma Bhushan in 2004.
