The film, set in post independent rural India , focuses on the politics of votes.

With powerful performances from Anant Nag and Devraj who portray Ramalinge Gowda and Markanda Gowda, two political opponents in a small village who try all tricks to exploit the gullible villageand grab their votes; the film gives a bird's eye view of caster based politics and rural society.

'Mathadaana' conveys a message about the value of individual votes in a democracy through a gripping script and theme.
