  • Description

Published in the year 2012, this seventh edition of Mathematical Methods For Physicists provides the readers with key insights into the fundamentals of mathematics that are vital for aspiring physicists and engineers.

    Summary Of The Book

Mathematical Methods For Physicists provides aspiring engineers and scientists with key insights into mathematical concepts that they may need to understand as elementary researchers and students. The authors have ensured that the first chapter covers all the vital concepts needed by the readers to understand the latter chapters. This seventh edition consists of mathematical relations and proofs that are of great importance in the field of Physics.

In total, there are 23 chapters in this book. Some chapters include Partial Differential Equations, More Special Functions, Ordinary Differential Equations, Tensors and Differential Forms, and Probability and Statistics. The authors have included several problems in each chapter, with the intent of making this edition interactive and enhancing the problem-solving skills of the readers. They have also added clear-cut diagrams to explain crucial concepts better.

Although this seventh edition has the same features as its predecessor, it presents the readers with a more balanced guide into theory, examples, and explanation. This edition comprises updated notations, better organization, and a larger range of problems, based on several difficulty levels. The authors have also provided simple definitions for important concepts, along with detailed explanations of theorems and proofs.

This book also comprises up-to-date examples, which will help the readers to grasp the concepts faster. Owing to its problem solving approach and application-oriented study of theorems, Mathematical Methods For Physicists is a surefire guide for students to achieve success academically and professionally.

Excellent Book but requires following other books

It is a good book but must be used as a reference book or a book to be referred to after thorough practice of other books like M.L. Boas on related topics. It is not meant for beginners. The author expects his readers to have the basic skills and use this book to sharpen them.

fabulous book for csir net preparation

    worth of money ...
The elaborated style but easily comprehensible. The writing is lucid with examples and useful derivations. I had found this book at the cheapest price feasible at flipkart only. The international edition of arfkin is quiet expensive. I suggest never be dithered to get this book if you are a physicist or a mathematician, its succinct text evinces almost all the topics in all Indian PG level entrance exams.

    All the best .

A favorite for all mathematical physics lovers.

A thorough understanding of this book defines a "class" student. It has examples and exercises for practice. It does not explain each and every detail behind every step; it is assumed that the readers WILL understand the logic of those simple steps. It is thus very clear that this book can NOT really be used by average undergraduate students. The ones who have an upper hand at mathematical physics can only perceive the gravity of this book.

Q:Is this book good for iit jam exam?
A:Yes but it's a higher level book. Students ,not graduate, may need guidance from professors or others as it doesn't contain all point to point description needed for a beginner. Examples are less.

Q:which book is best between Riley Hobson and Arfken ?
A:Both are classic books to my knowledge but the coverage of topics like complex analysis, Green's functions, differential equations etc. is more in Arfken&Weber. I feel it's better to go for Arfken.
