Mathematical Olympiad Treasures (English, Paperback, Andreescu)
Titu Andreescu and Bogdan Enescu have written Mathematical Olympiad Treasures to help train students for the Olympiads, and various other contests in mathematics.
Summary Of The Book
Mathematical Olympiad Treasures presents a combination of ordinary high school exercises, sophisticated problems and abstract and intricate concepts, in order to prepare students completely for various mathematical competitions, particularly olympiads. The book contains a wide collection of problems in geometry, trigonometry, algebra, combinatorics, and number theory. It starts with the basic concepts, and then goes on to the problems. These problems are selected carefully, and an extensive discussion of all the solutions is offered. These are then followed by the more complex problems. The book also contains solutions, an index of notations, and an index to the problems.
The authors have, through this book, tried to encourage undergraduate students to think creatively, and apply various strategies and techniques to real world problems. This book helps the students develop a lot of mathematical strategies that will prove useful in the long run. The students are also encouraged to express their ideas, theories and conclusions in the written form.
About The Authors
Born in Romania in 1956, Titu Andreescu is an associate professor of mathematics in the University of Texas. Other books by him include Mathematical Olympiad Challenges, Mathematical Miniatures, Number Theory: A Problem-Solving Approach, Putnam and Beyond, Problems From the Book, USA And International Mathematical Olympiads 2003, Geometric Problems On Maxima and Minima and Mathematical Bridges.
Andreescu has been deeply involved in olympiads and contests. He was the Director of the MOP and the AMC. He was also the head coach of the IMO team from the US. Andreescu was instrumental in the team winning a perfect score in the 1994 International Mathematical Olympiad, in Hong Kong. Andreescu was also the Chairman of USAMO.
Born in 1960 in Bacau, Bogdan Enescu is a faculty of mathematics in Bucharest. Enescu has also co-authored the book, RMC 2000. Enescu won the gold medal in the 1978 Mathematics Olympiad held in Bucharest. He has been the coach of the Romanian IMO team since 1989 and the Deputy Leader since 1995.
