Mahadevi Verma was a great Hindi poet. She has been compared to the Queen of Jhansi and to Meerabai. Verma belonged to the romantic school of Hindi literature. Though she is best known for her poetry, she also wrote many great novels and short stories.
This book, Mera Pariwar (My Family), is a collection of stories about animals that were her pets and about other animals that played an important part in her life.

Verma was born in the year 1907 in Uttar Pradesh. She was married when she was just seven years old, but she rarely spent time with her husband. They lived separately and pursued their own careers. She wrote poetry, novels, and short stories. Verma continued her education and graduated with a B.A. degree from Allahabad University. She later completed her master’s degree in Sanskrit. Verma was a reputed poet of the Chhayavaadi school. She was honored with the Jnanpith Award, Padma Bhushan, and also the Sahitya Akademi Award.
