John Barth along with his contemporary writers Vladimir Nabokov, Jorge Luis Borges, Donald Barthelme, Thomas Pynchon, and Kurt Vonnegut Jr, heralded a new literary movement in America called postmodernism. His oeuvre lends themselves to a postmodernist critical analysis.
