St. Mary Mead is all aflutter when movie star Marina Rudd and a film crew arrive is St. Mary Mead to film Mary Queen of Scots with Marina (Elizabeth Taylor)in the lead role. At a reception however the secretary of the village organizing committee, Heather Babcock, dies from a poisoned cocktail. The drink was Marina's who had given it to Heather after she spilled her first one. There is already considerable tension between many of the characters and as such, many possible suspects. Jason Rudd (Rock Hudson), Marina's husband and the director of the film, is having an affair with a production assistant, Ella Zielinski (Geraldine Chaplin). Lola Brewster - Marina's hated rival and friend of the film's producer Martin Fenn (Tony Curtis)- arrives having been given a small part in the film. Miss Marple (Angela Lansbury)and her nephew, Scotland Yard Inspector Dermot Craddock (Nigel Stock), work together to solve the puzzle.

The Pot Cracked
Of late, I have been getting my dose of "whodunnit" regularly. I started revisiting the genre to rekindle the excitable me. And trust me, a good "whodunnit" can be exciting, irrecpective of the viewer's age. Alas, a whodunnit can be equally "whocares-whodunnit", IF it is not treated with the respect that the genre deserves. Good movie, interesting plot, an unexpected twist in the end. Good acting by Angela Lansbury, Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson. It's not one of Agatha Christie's best, but for fans, it's a good buy.
