My Country My Life is the autobiography of the former Deputy Prime Minister of India, Lal Krishna Advani.

Summary of the Book

My Country My Life was released by Dr. Abdul Kalam in 2008. The book recounts all the major and minor events from the life of the veteran Indian politician chronologically. It is divided into five sections: Sindh and India – An Unbreakable Bond (1927-47), Journey from Sindh to Rajasthan (1947-57), Entry into National Politics (1957-77), BJP Spectacular Rise (1977-97), and India Strong & Self Confident (1997-2007). His pivotal contribution to Indian politics, along with his fellow politician Atal Bihari Vajpayee, was creating the Bharatiya Janata Party as a practical alternative for governing India and ending the Congress party’s supremacy over the country’s polity. A testament to what Advani has always been known for – clarity of thought – My Country My Life is an outspoken reflection of the man, his party, and his nation.

About Lal Krishna Advani

L. K. Advani is valued as a national leader who combines intellectualism, integrity and mass appeal. He was born on the 8th of November, 1927, in Karachi. He joined RSS at the young age of fourteen. In September 1947, he left Karachi amidst the calamity surrounding Partition. His political journey started in the year 1951, when Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya has been said to have momentously influenced the shaping of Advani’s ideologies. Advani was elected as the president of the party in 1973. He was imprisoned for nineteenth months during the Emergency, along with thousands of pro-democracy activists who battled under the guidance of Jayaprakash Narayan. Advani then went on to become the Information and Broadcasting Minister in the Bharatiya Janata Party government between 1977 and 1979. He was also BJP’s longest serving president since its origin in the year 1980. He also served as the country's Home Minister from 1998 to 2004, and as the Deputy Prime Minister of India from 2002 to 2004, in the Vajpayee Government. He has been a Member of Parliament since 1970, and has also been honoured as an ‘Outstanding Parliamentarian’.
