My Years with General Motors (English, Paperback, Sloan Alfred)
My Years With General Motors is a collection of memoirs by the former president of GM, Alfred P. Sloan.
Summary of the Book
A management book for automobile enthusiasts, Sloan's memoirs touch upon every aspect of a business from his point of view. Sloan was a principal player in the movement which saw General Motors rise to a world level in his tenure and helped it move out of its downturn in the 1920's. In the first half of the book he discusses the changes in GM and how the company has grown to the juggernaut it became in the late twentieth century. He also discusses the effects of the world war and how production soon changed entirely. The second part of the book focuses on distribution, engineering, overseas operations and defense products, showing how the industry was revolutionized through consistent improvement and change. He also offers advice to managers and shows how they can turn the company's profit margins into a more lucrative size through decisive management and consistent improvement.
