This novel presents a story of the parents who are apathetic, dictatorial and insensitive to their sons. One of them forces his son to commit suicide. How can anybody accept that parents can be so cruel? But literature is the criticism of the society; it makes people aware of the evils that the society is afflicted with. The novelist says through the examples of the three fathers in this novel that parents should never neglect children howsoever difficult their life be. Neglecting children is an offence against society because neglected children will in all probability grow into antisocial elements. Children who get love of the parents tend to love all. It is indeed brave of the three boys in this novel that they have risen so high, and have always maintained the spirit of friendship undefiled.
