The Nath panth is one evolutionary phase of a very old Siddha tradition of India. Guru Gorakshnath is considered the originator of the Nath Panth. The Nath panth has extensive Shaivism-related theological literature of its own. The Nath panth has two branches, one consisting of sadhus (celibate monksh) and other householder (married) lay people. The householders are significantly more in number than monksh and have the characteristics of an endogamous caste.
