    About The Book : This book consists of Extension Lectures delivered under the auspices of the Mysore university by the eminent author who acknowledges the inspiration and help of Dr Annie Besent for the first edition of its publication in 1921. Besides the preliminary section, the work is divided into nine sections examining Patriotism and Nationalism in Sanskrit Literature, Nationalism as a Hindu Political ideal, pilgrimage as fostering patriotism and nationalism, Sanskrit literature, cultural equipment and its bearing on social life, arguing that India was as great in action as in thought giving accounts of Maritime activities, ship construction, commercial adventures and every department of human activity, mental, material, moral and secular. Full contents of nationalism with its institutional embodiments, is given in the concluding chapter by way of stimulating further interest in the subject. The book is an essential reading in the present day political scenario. About The Author : Radhakumud Mookerji (1884 -1963) was an Indian historian and a noted Indian nationalist during the period of British colonial rule. He was the brother of the sociologist Radhakumud Mookerji. Mookerji obtained a doctorate from the University of Calcutta in 1905 and joined the newly established National Council of Education, teaching at the Bengal National College. After 1915, he embarked on a series of tenures at universities in Benares, Mysore, and Lucknow. He published Indian Shipping: A History of Seaborne Trade and Maritime Activity of the Indians from the Earliest Times in 1912. He was an advocate of the notion of Greater India in which Indian merchants and adventurers with huge fleets brought Indians to Southeast Asia and became the foundation of kingdoms in that region. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1957 for his contribution to Public Affairs.
