The plant is cultivated in many tropical areas as an ornamental, a green manure crop, in soil reclamation schemes and for its many useful properties. It is sold as a vegetable in local markets. It is fast-growing, soft-wooded tree, growing up to 8-15 m tall. It can be grown in any soil with drainage. First cut can be taken after 8 months and subsequent harvests at an interval of 60-80 days for fodder tree and crop are 120 days for first cut and subsequent are 45-50 days once. If the trees are cut back to a suitable height a large supply of fresh fodder. Farmers should maintain nursery method like single seed in the pro-tray or juice cup and planting in the field after 30-40 days. Protein content is about 25%. It improves milk yield & body weight of animals. Leaves are pinnate, 15–30 cm long, with 16–30 pairs of linear oblong leaflets. It can be planted very densely at the rate of 3000 plants per ha. Sowing Method
Agathi seeds have hard skin, so below steps needs to be performed for better germination. 1. Boil water to 100 degree celcious in a container 2. Allow it to cool down to 80 degree celcious 3. Soak the seeds in the hot water for 2 to 3 minutes 4. Replace the hot water with cold water and leave it for 12 hours 5. Drain the water and leave the soaked seeds in a wet cloth in a dark place for another 12 hours. 6. End of 24 hours, you would see the germination. Now directly sow it in the pot or location.
