  • Description

Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s modern classic One Hundred Years of Solitude covers the journey of seven generations of the Buendia family. This masterpiece of magical realism genre beautifully captures the unending conflict between the desire for solitude and the undeniable need for love.

    Summary of the Book

This is a story of seven generations of the Buendia family and a city named Macondo, founded by the patriarch of the family, José Arcadio Buendía. Surrounded by mountains, Macondo has its own ups and downs, disasters and miracles, and wars and wonders. Through the medium of magical realism, this masterpiece depicts the Columbian life by blending the political reality with elements of magic, and fantasy with comical interventions.

    About Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Born in 1927 in a small town situated in a tropical region of northern Colombia, between the mountains and the Caribbean Sea, Gabriel Garcia Marquez grew up with his grandfather. He began to study law but left his studies to work as a journalist. In 1954 he was sent to Rome on an assignment for his newspaper, and since then he has mostly lived abroad. When he started writing, he popularized a literary style known as magic realism, which uses magical elements and events in otherwise ordinary and realistic situations. Some of his works are set in the fictional village of Macondo (mainly inspired by his birthplace, Aracataca), and most of them explore the theme of solitude.

    Wonder-esque!

If one wonders why Marquez was awarded a Nobel, then this is the answer to such groundless doubts!

'Magic Realism' isn't everybody's cup of tea. He is an expert, the doyen in this genre. Mortals like me can't write a review for such masterpieces.
Let my words cease. Grab a copy and devour it NOW!

As a matter of fact, I read its pdf! That was quite an excruciating task for someone who can't stand e-books. But, it was Garcia's spell that kept me enchanted for two whole days!

    Very Good

The book is a gem, I'd read it already and I'm happily adding it to my personal collection!
About the quality of Book, I'm thankful to Flipkart as well as Prakash books Pvt Ltd, Bangalore. Packaging is beyond expectation, included a bill and looks as brand new like it was printed yesterday and maybe because of that they didn't had time for proper binding. Anyway it's only a minor flaw. Thank you Flipkart again!

One of my best reads to be remembered

This book was in my wishlist from the day it was declared in Oprah's Book Club, I guess in the year 2003. And finally when I actually got to read it, I think it was worth the wait. I lived with Ursula all from the very beginning from the discovery of Mocondo to the death of the last heir of the family after 100 year! Recommended to all readers and the family tree would be a great help provided at the beginning of the book since you are passing on to several generations in a single book. Congr...

    Worth reading

The names are a little confusing(repetitive), the story lengthy.
Book is Magneficient, the description of the environment and the emotions of the people is one of the best I've read.
In short, it doesn't miss a thing needed in a novel.
And if you like classics, go for it. It's worth reading.

And yes, the paper quality of this book is bad.

    One Hundred Years of Solitude

I noticed many people writing highly about this novel and so I wanted to have a copy of my own. Then I approached flipkart and I am very happy about the way I got it. It was quite smooth without any hitch. In fact the whole process was as gentle and soft as the flow of music.

    Solitude of the Buendia family

A chronicle of love, adventure, magic, reality, ups and downs encapsulated in an alter of magic realism, an epic with changes in human life richly endowed with a generous sprinkling of sharp and topical humour, tamed by the genius of Garcia Marquez. This epic is one of the best that I've read, and those wanting to have class in their book-self, should howl with delight. This man is a giant in the field of magic realism.
