Summary of the Book

The press covered the 2008 tragic story of K2 disaster incompletely. The story was one of the deadliest and the most mysterious tragidies in the history of mountaineering. One Mountain Thousand Summits is one such book that reveals the true story of the K2 tragedy which claimed eleven men’s lives. The author Freddie has visited Nepal several times to do his research on the tragedy. His in-depth interviews with the families of the deceased, the survivors and the Sherpa guides whose indomitable courage saved at least four climbers’ lives have been the major source in compiling this book. He attempts to get into the details of what actually happened on the mountain, while criticizing the media and press’s typical epidemic of not covering the truth extensively. The book also delves into the lives of the heroic six Sherpas who were present at the scene in the year 2008.

About Freddie Wilkinson

Freddie Wilkinson was only 13 when he first climbed New Hampshire’s Mount Washington. Although he grew up in the flatlands of the suburban areas of Connecticut, by the age of 20, he had climbed Denali through the Cassin Ridge and also Nepal’s Cholatse via the West Rib. More than mountaineering, Freddie considers himself more passionate about telling stories of heroes. One Mountain Thousand Summits was published in the year 2010, which happens to be his debut book.
