Hercule Poirot is determined to solve an old husband and wife double murder that is still an open verdict... Hercule Poirot stood on the cliff-top. For here, many years earlier, there had been a tragic accident - the broken body of a woman was discovered on the rocks at the foot of the cliff. This was followed by the grisly discovery of two more bodies - a husband and wife - shot dead. But who had killed whom? Was it a suicide pact? A crime of passion? Or cold-blooded murder? Poirot delves back into a crime committed 15 years earlier and discovers that, when there is a distinct lack of physical evidence, it's just as well that 'old sins leave long shadows'...

Elephants can remember : An amazing book to read

The book has a simple plot with a fair number of characters. The narration is quick, however, certain parts of the book tend to drag on a bit. With M. hercule Poirot and Mrs. Oliver, the story starts unraveling itself and the end of the case is, like always, an intriguing note. The book is pretty light, engaging and a thoroughly delicious ride if you like Poirot or Dame Agatha Christie.

    Thumbs up for this one..!

    Delightful

Very interestingly woven story. Much cannot be said because, mystery lies beneath every detective novel of Agatha Cristie! Ha Ha!

    So-So

This was an average read for me. Poirot is approached for help in a mystery which had been unsatisfactorily closed by the police a long time back and the little Belgian puts his grey cells into action!!

The plot is good and the twists and turns come as expected. However, the final result turns a tad predictable and hence, when it comes, doesn't leave you spell-bounded. Also, the book tends to drag a little in the middle. This would have served better as a short story or a novella, perhaps.

    Didn't look like Agatha Christie

This book doesn't look like it's been written by Agatha Christie. Start is so slow and boring. Hercule Poirot does not look like Hercule Poirot - kind of question he asks, way he behaves - no no it was not our eccentric, discreet, energetic yet genius Hercule Poirot. It felt like reading a pedestrian detective novel. Totally unlike Ms. Christie. I have rated most of Chrsite books but I never remember giving 2 stars...well there is always a first time.

A splendidly written and an unusual mystery..A classic Agatha Christie book.. :)

I can’t say that I have not loved any of Agatha Christie’s books and Elephants Can Remember is no exception.
A very bossy woman, Mrs Bourtan-Cox confronts Mrs Ariadne Oliver, a famous detective fiction novelist, at a literary event and asks her the mysterious question

‘Did her mother kill her father or was it the father who killed the mother?’

The question is in retrospect of two deaths that occurred fifteen years ago of General and Lady Ravenscroft. Both shot dead but were they murdered? W...

    Highly put-down-able !

This may have been the first time that i felt like leaving an Agatha Christie book midway- for this book seemed to be a plain pot boiler from the Queen Of Mystery. The first 100 pages contain stuff which do not feature anywhere in the final investigation, the crux of the story comes into the readers' grasp only between the 150th and last page... To add to the misery, this book happens to be written on exactly similar lines as Five Little Pigs. If you have already read that, then there is no w...

    Christie at her worst

Been an avid reader and admirer of almost all of Christie's works. This book lacks the her trademark twists and turns but try to be psychologically profound like 'Ordeal by Innocence', but turns out as bland it can be. Not at all recommended.
P.S; Not even a satsfying twist at the end!, if it can be called a twist
