A non-violent man reluctantly goes to war. To stop war and bloodshed! Bowing to his fathers wishes our hero joins the army. He comes back only to realize that the enemy is working from within to destroy the country. He goes abroad to unravel the conspiracy. All is fair in love and war. So our hero seduces the enemy agent (Zahida) seeming not to care for his girl friend he has left back in India (Waheeda Rehman). He is a reluctant hero. And now he is engaged in a full fledged war.This was Dev Anands first official debut film as director. S. D. Burman as usual comes up with a first rate musical score. Some of the more memorable songs were, Phoolon ke rang se, dil ki kalam se by Kishore Kumar, the Kishore-Lata duet Shokhiyon me ghola jaye, phoolon ka shabab, the Lata solo Rangeela re, the marching song Taquat watan ki ham se hai by Mohd. Rafi and Manna Dey and the carefree lilt Gham pe dhool dalo.. by Kishore and Bhupendra.
