  • Description
Danny Cartwright and Spencer Craig were born on different sides of the track. Danny, an East End Cockney, leaves Clement Attlee Comprehensive School at the age of 15 to take up a job at a local garage. He falls in love with Beth, the boss's daughter, and asks her to marry him. Spencer Craig resides in the West End. A graduate of an English public school and Cambridge University. After leaving university he becomes a criminal barrister and is soon tipped to be the youngest Queen's Counsel of his generation. Danny and Beth travel up to the West End to celebrate their engagement. They end the evening in a wine bar where Spencer Craig is also celebrating - his 30th birthday, along with a select group of university chums. Although the two young men don't meet, their lives will never be the same again. For, an hour later, one of them is arrested for murder, while the other ends up as the Prosecution's chief witness in an Old Bailey trial.

    A must read

Order this book from flipkart and received it in 3 days. Great job.

Now about the book and the author. JA is a world famous author, with more than 20 bestsellers to his name. If you are a big Archer fan, youre gonna love this book, and even if you aren't, you'll love it anyway. The style archer adopts in this book is mindblowing. The plot is paced well and always keeps the user interested. I got this book at around 3 pm and didnt put it down (apart from dinner and pee breaks :P) and finished...

    Good Read - Fast Moving

    Nice Book - Fast moving

Superficially the story may look similar to Dumas novel - The Count of Montecristo but its not an old wine in new bottle. Its beautifully written. People who compare this to Alexander Dumas novel have not read the full version of the count of montecristo. The full version novel, page to page is all about revenge, and gets boring after awhile. A PRISONER OF BIRTH novel is much more intellectually crafted than stupid revenge as its only subject.
It is actually a well cr...

    Genius!

Archer is a master story teller. No one can match his level of narration skill. Prisoner of birth is an excellent specimen of that. An excellent tale of a fight back and a thrilling climax! Worth a read without a doubt!

    Chapter Number 71

Well the entire story is unravelled in chapter number 71, now the pain is - to understand that one chapter, you have to read the entire book. Guess it is worth it.
Very nicely written, the plot sometimes seems like chiseled for a hindi movie but guess we can live with that.
    Highly Recommended.

    Great 1

Just finished it recently and enjoyed a lot. Archer always give the story a best shot and the climax was really good loved the characters of Nick and Danny both. And also enjoyed in the redemption part Munro words in the court. A must read.

    court room thriller

this is my jeffrey archer's first novel. i chose to read it coz people have rated it as one of his best on many web sites.
it is a long 616 page book which did make me reluctant to continue a few times.
but it has decent share of thrills distributed in the entire book.
the best part of the book is the initial 120 and final 80 pages of court room drama.
    simply awesome. un put downable.
good thriller which can be made into an excellent movie if it hasn't been!!
