It contains essential nutrients like dietary fibre, iron, phosphorus and thiamine and is free from cholesterol. It has a higher content of calcium than rice and wheat. Uses: It can be steamed and boiled to be used as an ingredient in many recipes. It can be added to soups and stews or ground into a flour that can be used as a substitute for wheat flour. The traditional use of Jowar is to grind it to make dosa and roti; it is also used to make upma.
